Equipment and Facilities: Equipment / Facilities
We have many different types of equipment that we use in our endeavors. Listed here are some of the main telescopes we use in case you are interested:
★ 12" Schmidt-Cassegrain Meade with GPS AutoStar (1)
★ 8" LX90 Schmidt-Cassegrain Meades with AutoStar (8)
★ 6" Celestron (1)
★ 4" Questar (1)
The Physics department graciously offers us space to use of which the two main building are the Physics and Geology Building (lovingly referred to as 'PhysGeo') and the observatory on top of Hutchison Hall (which we just call 'Hutch'). Any other buildings we use are given to us through general reservation as a registered UCDavis club. Find more information on the places we use and directions below:
★ Physics and Geology Building (38°32'12.2202", -121°45'5.9292") :
Roof: Public Viewings occur here on alternating Friday nights, as well as our special viewing events (solar, eclipses). Signs are up to point the way during these events. As these events occur after hours and on weekends, usually only the main doors (north facing) are unlocked. From there, travel down the hall a bit and take a right before the geology section to find the elevators. Take the elevators up to the 5th floor. On the fifth floor, take a left, and a left, and follow the hall to the end. Take one more left and go through the doors and up the stairs to the roof.
Club Room (549): Our main base of operations. Most useful to visitors will be the bulletin board just outside of the club room. The bulletin board has club info, event info, schedules, and cool astronomy happenings. Field trip sign-up sheets are usually posted on the board.
Cosmic Cafe (525): We mainly use this lovely room for club meetings. Telecons also take place here, and occasionally movie nights.
416: An alternate room for larger events or when 525 is unavailable.
★ Roessler (55): Coming soon.
★ Hutchison (roof): Hutch Hall is generally only used by us for the observatory, where we hold public viewings on alternating Wednesdays in our lovely mechanical dome.
★ Chancellor's Parking Lot (Lot 3): Coming soon.
