In this exercise, we are going to map the equipotential lines for 2 positive charges. Open the Macintosh Hd and open the Physics 9C class folder. Open the EM field folder and double click on EM Field.
A) From the Sources menu choose "3D point charges".
B) Drag 2 charges of the same value onto the workspace.
C) Choose "Potential" from the field menu.
D) Click on different point on the screen and see what happens. After you get the idea, choose "Clean up screen" from the "Display" menu.
Exercise:
By clicking try two find a collection of points at the same potential for
1) close to the charges.
2) far from the charges.
3) intermediate.
When you are done, sketch the equipotential lines.
Now check your result. In the "Fields" menu choose "Equipotential" and click on one of the points in your collection. The program will draw an equipotential line. How close did you come?
